shadowsis rated Glittermitten Grove

shadowsis rated a game 2 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

While it is functional I wouldn't call it fun at this time. There are a few key problems that need to be addressed.

I'd say the first problem is the fog of war that appears on the surface. You'd think as a fairy with several other fairies working under me I would be able to just, well, look out and see what's there. The orbs of sight cast light on them but I would suggest renaming them to orbs of influence or the like and remove the surface fog while maintaining the underground sight limit.

The second is the horizontal map size. Due to the size of the map and the previous issue you can't just make a grove for food a bit away from your trees since there is no space to do it. The bushes are a bit too sensitive to the shade and strait up die before winter if more than 1/3 of it is under another tree. In real life bushes can be in a variety of places because the sun moves across the sky and gives them multiple opportunities during the day to get sun light.

The third is while the trees are technically impressive having the ability to grow independently, which did pleasantly surprise me, it is hard to figure them out at times. They don't seem to have much ability to correct themselves and I often find them growing inwards which makes them difficult to keep. That of course is compounded by nature of building.

The last problem is in most games the act of placing a structure is a plan, then the NPCs follow the plan until you run out of materials. Then you get more. The issue with this game is that the game only lets you put down a plan once you have a certain number of materials then doesn't subtract it from your available total. This causes you to be able to build as many of that thing as you want until the fairies come and take the materials out of storage. From there you don't know how much you need. This is not helped by the fact that the wood on the ground decays very quickly. Like within 30 seconds.

A minor problem is the fairies move too slow and eat and sleep to often. This makes their progress slow at best and nauseatingly slow at worst

I'd say this game has promise but is severely hindered by the it's balancing methods and the functionality of it's mechanics.

I hope for and look forward to any patches and updates that may arise later on that will help with these problems.
