So, I’m going to get the biggest issue stated first: The save system does not work. I tried several things to make sure it was not just me, but other people have stated that it is an issue, and as of writing this has not been fixed. Many issues of the game would be much less of a nuisance if this worked, so just remember as I talk about the rest of the game that if you close it, you have to start all over. The premise is this: go through the park and catalog every creature you can find. For each one, you get some money to spend in the shop. You have a limited number of steps, so you have to make it count. However, ‘steps’ are also used up when you fish, which wouldn’t exactly make sense, and attempting to trap creatures also activates after you’ve walked around enough, when it’s framed as ‘wait a bit’. Considering this is 2 out of 3 methods of cataloging creatures, I feel as though there’s a bit of dissonance between the gameplay and the world, as if it’s trying to punish you for fishing instead of trapping or catching creatures in the grass. The game supposedly has roguelike elements, but I could not find any aside from having a limited number of steps to explore before you have to go back to town. It’s not procedurally generated, or random where you start, Items respawn in the exact same places, and creatures are in the exact same places as well, giving no real reason to have to leave the park except to shop. It feels as though the game is fighting against the step counter at every stage, and I realize this is because the game is heavily inspired by the game’s namesake, the Safari Zone from pokemon, but it fails to lean into the potential of the concept. I also cannot understate how buggy this game is. The shop stopped selling me items even though I had the money, The aforementioned saves not working, and overworld creatures not telling me that I caught them when I first started the game are all pretty glaring issues, and I’m sure there’s even more that I didn’t encounter.
