A short but extremely charming rpg with an art style that surprisingly works and combat that is fun but flawed
It is rare that a game gets me to laugh with it but the adventures of box man found a way. This game absolutely radiates charm and that charm even caused me to overlook some of this games flaws. More on these flaws later. First, the games 3d art style while simple, added to the wacky off kilter nature of the product, making it feel charming rather then lazy (kind of like the amazing world of gumball or south park and their animation styles). The characters were funny and likable, the enemies got a lot of laughs out of me due to their designs and dialogue (the potato was a genius choice lmao), and the world was surprisingly fun to explore. I spent way more time looking around for spare duct tape then I probably needed too just to see the weird places they were located or what weird character were guarding them. The game takes around forty minutes to complete and while I would usually complain about that, I feel that in this case it is a good thing as the short runtime allowed me to soak in the charm without it overstaying its welcome. Speaking of complaints however it's time to talk about the combat. To start, the wand just didn't work, the game didn't register the damage it dealt which was frustrating since the wand seemed like a cool weapon. The swords damage being based on rng was a really bad choice as bad rng caused me to lose a few fights that I didn't deserve to lose. I didn't die due to a lack of skill of preparedness i died due to bad luck which is always annoying. Overall however, the games strengths managed to overshadow its flaws. I cannot ignore the fact that this game has more charm and passion put into it then half the triple A titles released in 2022. This is still a fun time that i would recommend to anyone on this platform who is a fan of classic 3d rpgs.
