Best tower defense gameplay since Kingdom Rush!
UI is still obviously in the prototype phase, but the towers feel well-balanced and the upgrade choices feel meaningful. Enemy types include old favorites but I like the new gimmicks, too.
The only real con is that there's no way (I've found at least) to "resume" a past session where you left off. Earned experience is retained across sessions, but each time you load the game you start on a brand new map. I'd assume that's a feature planned for later development, a great deal of effort so far has obviously gone into playtesting and balancing the tower mechanics. The exposition provided in-game is obviously inspired by Triumph Studios/Codemasters' Overlord series - I think it could be seen as a charming homage - either way, though, it's effective and quite often useful, especially your first few games.
I'm looking forward to a release version - and not only because I want to know what "transmutation essence" is for!
