Nolendil rated Lifecraft - out now on Steam!

Nolendil rated a game 3 years ago
A downloadable game.

I know it's an alpha version (I played v0.0.1f alpha6 on Windows) and that the description warns that the game may seem overwhelming to new player, but there are several flaws that ruined the experience for me before I even finished the tutorial.

- The controls are unintuitive and should be explained at the start of the tutorial. For instance, I haven't found how to move the camera except for zooming in/out. It also took me a while to figure that you use right-click to pick up items: the tutorial requires you to pick up an item on its first step but only mentions that you use right-click on the later steps.

- There's not enough feedback when you pick up an item. Mostly, you can't see if you hold something, or what you are holding. This makes interactions very unclear (even more so when you don't know which mouse button to use).

- The first item you need at the beginning of the tutorial was not visible on screen. After a minute or two of trying to pick up everything on screen, I had to zoom out to finally find the correct item. In a tutorial, you really want to put what the player needs under their nose.

- It also took me a while to figure out where to click to pick up the items produced by the ribosomes. For some time, I thought I had failed the recipe. It's also not clear what happens when you fail a recipe: you just lose the resource and there's no feedback?

- Several tooltips are missing on the interface. That's a minor bug, but considering you seem to have a working tooltip system and not so many button, this should be an easy fix and have been dealt with before you release a public build, even if you just write a place-holder text (e.g. "This button is not functional yet").

I'm not convinced I would enjoy the gameplay anyway, everything felt tedious. Anyway, best wishes for your project.
