Emberbright rated A Friend's Web

A browser game made in HTML5.

I really enjoyed this game, although I'm pretty sure I don't completely understand it. But I have theories! I love games with unlockables, and having the unlocked books change with further playthroughs is a great and surprisingly atmospheric touch, adding a deeper aspect to the MC's memories problems and allowing the player to draw parallels between the characters in the books and the events of the game. The slight changes that occur with every "loop" are extremely effective, with the increasingly pronounced differences becoming more unsettling each time. It felt like there weren't a lot of concrete answers, which could be intentional or could just be me missing something, but I didn't feel unsatisfied, which is a tricky thing to achieve in any medium. I found the ominous tone to the MC's descriptions of their friend to be effective, especially the "turn you into something useful" part, which causes you to question said friend's true nature and whether or not he's as benevolent as the MC believes. Other intriguing fragments include the apparent weeks of missing time between the end of a playthrough and the start of a new one, the nature of the apparent apocalypse, and the apparent presence of the girl from the Lab route in one of the Town Central CGs.

I don't know if you're planning on exploring this game's characters or setting further, but I'd love to play any future installments that might come along!
