The story is a bit too simple for my taste and the characters aren't interesting at all. The last two characters that join the party feel like fillers.
The fighting wasn't so bad, but has some huge balancing issues. Some attacks where so much stronger than others. Especially the random special attacks of some weapons were stronger than most other attacks in the game. Especially in this type of games having to rely on random attacks felt wrong. If it was like a crit, that did 2x normal damage, then it would have been fine, but it felt more like 10x normal damage against all enemies.
Because of this huge damage numbers on some skills to make bosses not too easy they were given huge amount of Health Points. They were so high that some fights took 20 or more minutes of spamming special attacks.
My last issue is equippable skills and magic. This is totally a personal opinion, but i never liked the system of having to equip gems to use certain skills or magic. Especially on physical attacks it just seems weird, that a character can only use it with an item equipped and suddenly forgets it as soon as he takes it away. It feels like the characters don't learn anything in their journey.
Other than that you can still see that a lot of work went into this game. And for being done by mostly a single developer it is really good.
Not sure if there were beta-Testers, but i think this game still needs some number crunching when it comes to damage and health points.
