Kevin Cole + SuperTry May 2023 Newsletter

Hey everybody,

May’s over! It’s done! Here’s all the things I did:

WIZARD LAWS

SuperTry officially turned ten this month and we celebrated with a new video game! Our submission to the Pursuing Pixels James Jam Game Gam is WIZARD LAWS Are Made to Be Broken, a puzzle platformer about being a wizard and breaking the rules.

I got to try out some things I’ve been avoiding for a while like basic water buoyancy and effects animation. We also ended up doing pretty well in the jam! We scored high in pretty much every category.

WIZARD LAWS is playable in your browser if you want to check it out. It is a community supported game and Joe and I couldn’t have made it without help from our patrons. We’re going to be expanding the game somewhat in June before taking on GMTK Jam in July.

Goosebuds

(I co-host this podcast about Goosebumps books with my friends Chad Quandt and Paul Ritchey. I edit this one too!)

In Goosebuds Episode 150, we read Full Moon Fever, a certified banger by R.L. Stein made for the Goosebumps 2000 series. The jokes are dark. There’s a witch with magic cursed candy. Kids eat roadkill. It’s everything a Goosebumps should be.

In Goosebuds Episode 151, R.L. must have sensed that our hopes were getting a little too high and responded with Slappy’s Nightmare, a winding serpent of weird high concept scenarios that ultimately defeats and eats itself. We lived to fight another day.

In May’s Camp Goosebuds we mostly talked about our initial impressions of Breath of the Tears of the Wild of the Kingdom. It’s nice to be able to experience a video game as my friends and the world experience it too. Sometimes it’s neat to participate in The Culture.

Goosebuds is also available on multiple podcast catchers if this is your first time hearing about it!

Houdi

This month Houdi says regular maintenance doesn’t have to suck. Eventually things break and you have to fix them. If you give it a shot you can find something to enjoy about that.

Thank you for reading! You can read my previous newsletters here. I forgot to post my newsletter for April, so if you’re wondering what I did two months ago, you can read it in the archives!

Peace!
