Dating sims (or dating simulations) are a video game subgenre of simulation games, usually Japanese, with romantic elements. The most common objective of dating sims is to date, usually choosing from among several characters, and to achieve a romantic relationship.

Blending narrative storytelling with player choice, often text-based experiences where readers shape the story through their decisions. These works can range from simple branching narratives to complex simulations, offering immersive worlds and character-driven plots that unfold based on user input.

Contains lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender characters or plot lines.

Focused on using its text, moreso than its visuals or audio, to tell the bulk of its story/plot. (Still can have great audio and visuals, though!)
