If, for whatever reason, you have both the Itch and Steam versions of The Lost Art of Innkeeping, note that the save file locations are different (I had to change it to allow for Steam Cloud synchronization.)

If you initially played the game on the Itch version and prefer to continue from now on with the Steam version, please follow the steps below. (Your username) in the file paths below is your own username on the computer.

Important note: The instructions assume you haven't started a new game in the Steam version and saved it, as it'll replace anything existing in the Steam save file location. If you do have a Steam save file already, we'll have to be more careful about what files you replace - if you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.

1) Launch the Steam version of the game. After you see the title screen, you can choose "Quit" to exit to the desktop. (This step will create the folder for saved games for the Steam version.)

2) Saved games from the Itch version are in: C:\Users\(Your username)\AppData\Local\User Data\Default\TheLostArtOfInnkeeping. Navigate to this folder and you'll see a bunch of files called "config", "global", "file1", "file2"., etc. Select all the files in this folder and copy them (CTRL + C).

3) Saved games from the Steam version are in: C:\Users\(Your username)\AppData\Local\thelostartofinnkeeping\Savefiles. Navigate to this folder and you should see a "config" file there. Paste all the files that you previously copied into this folder (CTRL + V). If asked if you want to replace the "config" file, say "yes" (this will retain the settings - such as music volume, walking speed, etc - from the Itch version).

4) Now, when you launch the Steam version of the game, you should be able to load your Itch saved games. (Note that your saved games will retain your previous achievements as seen in the "Achievements" screen within the game, but the achievements in the Steam client will be unlocked only as you achieve them while playing the game - they won't be retroactively unlocked.)

Let me know if you have any questions!
