If I have my game in a previous version and I want to update it, do I download the newer version and place like a type of file in it or is there a built-in updating system?

I have an auto-updater through the itch.io app (https://itch.io/app) and the bulter interface (https://fasterthanlime.itch.io/butler)

All the save files are under %local_app_data% so you can run any version and it will have your saved game. Just download the zip and extracted and replace all the files in the old version.
