I've been around a while but had never heard of kakuro up until about 2 years ago. I like to think of kakuro as a crossword puzzle that uses numbers instead of words for both the clues and answers. There are some sudoku aspects to it also such as duplicates and zeros are not allowed.
It takes a little bit more time to pick up compared to other puzzle games but that extra time is well worth it. I became hooked and still am to this day.
