I am a programmer looking for a dedicated Pixel Artist/Animator to collaborate on "Fermata," a top-down roguelike.
The Game Loop: You play as Cal, a drummer trapped in an infinite, shifting motel after a car crash. The world is pitch black.
- Echolocation: You must "ping" (tap a button) to see the walls and enemies for a split second.
- Rhythm Combat: You must move and attack on the beat of the soundtrack.
- The Narrative: A 5-Act structure exploring the 5 Stages of Grief, featuring a companion character (Sage) who evolves based on the current Act.
Current Status: The Game Design Document (GDD) is complete and highly detailed. The game is a work-in-progress, but I am quickly nearing the time that I need sprites to make the game come to life.
- Core Systems: Procedural generation, Rhythm input window, "Sanity/Panic" meters.
- Progression: A Hades-style meta-progression system ("The Clock-In") with unlocks, loadouts, and narrative evolution.
- Tech Stack: C# (MonoGame).
What I Need (The Art Style) I am looking for an artist who specializes in 2D Pixel Art with an interest in horror and lighting effects.
- Atmosphere: High contrast. The game relies heavily on darkness and light sources (candles, flashlights, UV lamps).
- The Vibe: Liminal spaces (empty hallways, pools, boiler rooms) and Glitch/Body Horror (enemies that look like distorted sketches or broken machinery).
- Responsibilities:
- Environment: Tilesets for 5 distinct biomes (Lobby, Industrial, Casino, Flooded, Desert).
- Characters: Animations for Cal (Drumming/Combat) and Sage (The Lantern Bearer).
- UI: Stylized meters (Panic/Rhythm) that fit a "gritty motel" aesthetic.
