What is this game?
Final guardian is a tower defensive style sandbox game. The players within the game control and main character they can build and also attack monsters. The goal of the game is to protect the crystal at the center of the map as long as possible, from the various monsters that spawn from the two sides of the map endlessly.
Players can defend the crystal using one of two methods, one, building a tower or defense towers to fend off these monsters, or a player can choose to use the weapons that he possesses to fight the monsters himself. The game is suitable for a large range of audience due to the nature of it being a semi-sandbox game
What kind of experience you will get?
Players that are young or inexperienced with the game at first, can just play the game as it is, trying to fend off as many waves of monsters as possible before it gets the better of them.
The senior or more experienced players can choose to play the game differently. Building structures and defenses that are more effective or more aesthetically pleasing, writing off into many different place tales of the game. Thus, the game is suitable for both senior players and junior players, and also catering to players that have played the game for a long amount of time or just started at the game.
Emergence theme?
We designed our game to be centered around the theme of emergence. As said before, our game has many potential play styles that the players can explore themselves, and also many routes a player can go down in order to complete the game. Players can set different objectives for themselves rather than going for the straightforward objective of surviving as long as possible, such as building the most intricate defense system or building the most aesthetically pleasing structure.
Such is the central theme of an emergence game, and we have applied this philosophy and theory to our game, making our game very suitable for the theme for this year's stem challenge.
Objectives / Goals
Players can creatively do whatever they want in our game under the simple mechanics that we have implemented.
The aim of the game that we have set is an endless survival mechanic. The player's aim is to protect a crystal at the center of the map from not being destroyed by monsters coming from the two sides of the map.
The number of monsters coming from the two sides of the map is endless, and the difficulty of the game increases as time passes on, thus making it an endless survival game. But what is different about our game from others and the survival games, is our tower and building mechanic.
Art Style
The basic art style and visual appearance of the game will be in a fantastical and comical presentation. Due to the various visual art talents that we have in our group, we have decided to settle on an art style that is cartoonish and also semi-realistic at the same time. The characters in the game all fantasy creatures, being centaurs and goblins.
Goblins have green skins; a centaur has a human upper body and a horse lower body. We have also incorporated the background to be very mystical and fantastical, as per said before. The various weapons and spells the player can cast also have a very strong tie to fantasy and lore. The weapons that the hero can use weapons such as magical hammers, magic-infused wands, and magical arrows and this can all be expressed in the visual art style as well.
