I'd like to have the time to join a jam where I could spend 24 hours a day like some people do but that's not possible for me. I have work, kids, dog etc. Boo hoo ;-)
So, how about a system here where time poor people (or anyone else) can enter an "Open Ended" Game Jam?
Like a normal jam but where you can fit making your game around a limited schedule? i.e. You could have a duration where the jam is "open" for anyone to join but then have a time limit for how long to spend "active" (i.e. actually making the game). You then just choose when to put those hours in when you have time.
To try this, I did my own "jam" on my own. Around 15 hours (circa 2 "working" days worth of hours) spread over however many days I needed. I needed about 10 days, (at other times I may have needed more or less days). Themes and other rules can be applied just like normal. I'm not sure where I can post the resulting (digital) game, not having set up a jam on the calendar, (I am new to itch!).
Obviously I could just create a jam here on itch.io and then say in the rules about how you can spend the time but people coming across the jam on the calendar will not see it in a way that conveys how the start date is less important than with normal jams. Once a conventional jam starts most people looking for a jam to join will skip it (so conveying that it's still join-able without loss of remaining development time "advantage" would be nice).
Thoughts...?
