McAuliffe 3 timing bug?

Thanks for making this mod, really impressive work.

I'm playing through the Vega campaign but have an issue with the third mission in McAuliffe, where you need to escort a Drayman.

After bringing the transport to about 5 kilometers distance of the Tiger's Claw, the transport suddenly turns around and goes back to its starting position -- and beyond, it never stops. It also took a while for the final enemy wave (the ace pilot, I believe) to spawn, which triggered only somewhere when the transport was backtracking.

Could this be a timing bug?

I'm playing 0.8 RC4 of the mod on DOSBox-X (v2025.05.03). I can send you a save game, or even a DOSBox-X save state from just before the transports heads back (not sure how portable these states are between different systems though)

Definitely not a timing bug, although it may be a mission bug... I just confirmed that the transport does just head off towards its starting position in the original game too (GOG release). It played out the same way in WCAT. If you land once the transport starts flying back then that completes the mission successfully. I believe it's supposed to enter formation with the Tiger's Claw, but that isn't happening.

The ace wing however did spawn correctly in both sessions, so I'm honestly not sure what that could have been, unless you manually flew around the area where they spawn on the way to the Tiger's Claw? Not sure!

I'll have a look at the mission data and see if I can stop the transport properly at the Tiger's Claw. I'll have to test it in the process, so I'll see if I encounter the issue where the ace wing doesn't spawn.

Ah, I hadn't thought of trying it in an unpatched game. I had checked some walkthroughs, because I kept losing the mission, and those didn't mention anything about the transport heading back so I assumed it was a new thing.

You're right that landing when the transport is close wins the mission, but I must've waited too long for the transport to get closer that by the time I landed, it had moved out of range again and the mission was considered a loss.

Regarding the ace, that must've been a fluke then even though I replayed the mission a few times. When trying it again just now the ace did show up at about 23km away from the Tiger's Claw, but only if I'm there. The transport itself doesn't trigger it. I think I stuck close to the transport all the way to the Tiger's Claw previously but maybe I stepped just outside of the trigger area at one point? Who knows :)

Thanks for looking into it, and sorry for not double checking with the original game first.
