Inspired by the amazing work in the DONTFORGET community—huge thanks to RickyG and the team for building such a collaborative MMO experience rooted in Undertale and Deltarune—I wanted to share a vision for taking community-driven development even further.
Idea in a Nutshell:
- Server & Database: Set up a server (or, if the DONTFORGET team is interested, build on theirs) to track character values, choices, and progression.
- Procedural Content: Use procedural generation to create new areas and dialogue, enabling endless exploration and fresh interactions while staying true to each character’s personality. (I can design the matrix system, just not code it.)
- Living World: The main game is just the beginning. Player actions could unlock new lands or connect different fan universes (like Underfell or Trainertale), with the blessing of original creators.
- Community-First: Everything would be open, collaborative, and respectful of the original devs’ wishes—a platform for fans to tell their own stories, expand the lore, and keep the world alive.
Why This Could Work:
- The Undertale engine and data are well-explored by fans, making procedural content more accessible.
- The DONTFORGET wiki and community show deep engagement and a desire to contribute.
- Toby Fox encourages fan creativity, so there’s room for respectful, innovative projects.
Final Note: This isn’t about taking over anyone’s work. It’s about celebrating what’s been built and exploring what’s possible together, with full credit and respect to the original creators. If anyone’s interested in brainstorming or collaborating, let’s talk! If the DONTFORGET team or any creators have concerns, we’ll follow their lead.
Let me know if you want this tailored for a specific audience (devs, wiki editors, or general fans)! I can help set this up, or the community can take over—whatever people prefer. Personally, I’d love to see this evolve to where Alphys and I can geek out on her computer in-game and watch anime (or in a new theater area).
Engine Suggestion: Check out Smack Studio on Steam. I saw a top-down morphing game made with it—it might work for this project, though it’ll take some effort.
Example Feature: Alphys could gain the ability to scan and interpret shows, reacting live alongside the player at their pace. That’s just her “ability”—with careful safeguards, this could be a unique MMO indie giant in the making. It just takes… Determination.
