For me, on Windows, the game starts up with a resolution that is unsupported by my monitor so I can't play it. I suggest adding settings before startup or at least trying to start in borderless fullscreen instead of exclusive.
Making a modification to the game would be quite a work. Not for the modification itself but because of the required test, deployment, etc..
I've opened the game and set the game in windowed mode, minimum resolution. You can download the resulting configuration file from the enclosed link. If you place the file in the Kepler22.exe directory (replacing the original one) it should start safely. Please let me know if this solution is satisfactory.
