Who am I?
Hello! I'm High Regent Thornbrooke, but You can call me Regent or Thorn for short.
I have to admit, I'm both nervous and excited to share this journey publicly. Out of all of my endeavors, this one has to be the most daring and to have eyes on me during this process ..... Well, let's just say I'm an anxious introvert at heart and this is daunting to say the least.
Why This Project:
I’ve always loved interactive fiction and the way it lets you step into a story and make decisions that truly matter. That love, paired with my fascination with the civic life of medieval England—its trades, taxes, and intricate systems of resource management—has led me here.
I’ve spent a lot of time searching for a game that balances high-level resource management with meaningful efficiency mechanics, but I haven’t quite found what I’m looking for. Many games either focus too much on numbers without providing any narrative or make the systems so complex they become overwhelming without feeling rewarding. So, I thought, why not try to create that balance myself?
Inspirations
Some of my favorite interactive fiction games include Wayhaven Chronicles, I, The Forgotten One, and War for the West. I'll speak more on these another time, but these games do such a great job of weaving compelling stories with impactful decisions and resulting consequences that you feel all the way to the end of the story.
I want to take what I love about them and build something that combines that immersion and depth with the challenge of restoring a medieval barony to prosperity.
I’m not someone who shares things easily, but this project means a lot to me, and I hope this visibility will hold me accountable to its development.
With that in mind, my goal is to post weekly updates about its progress. If this resonates with you or sparks your interest, I’d love for you to follow along. It’s a quiet start, but I’m excited to see where it leads.
