Linux Crash with segfault. FreeRider 30.09.2016

FYI,

I've just updated FreeRider to the 30092016 Linux version. I've tried to run it twice, both occasions ending up with a segfault system lockup.

Error occurs on program start. Earlier versions of FreeRider versions worked well (on Ubuntu 14.04).

Currently running Ubuntu 16.04 - 64 bit (same machine as earlier) with all latest patches.

Fault is repeatable. Screen locks solid and box doesn't respond to any key inputs (so cannot view info on terminal etc, or view current status of logs). I can switch to another workspace (Ctrl + Alt + F*). On new workspace I only get a black screen, but machine responds to keystrokes (i.e. for reboot)

These are the relevant extracts from system logs after restart:

first crash
...... kernel: [440803.568185] FPVFreerider[7816]: segfault at 7fe5aae6d9d8 ip 0000000000f2dd3d sp 00007fffd259a9d0 error 4 in FPVFreerider.x86_64[400000+1858000]

After reboot, second crash
.......kernel: [27297.025572] FPVFreerider.x8[17411]: segfault at 7fea3cf1d9d8 ip 0000000000f2dd3d sp 00007ffed0cf3a10 error 4 in FPVFreerider.x86_64[400000+1858000]

Any ideas?

Thanks for the feedback. The latest version is built with a newer version of Unity (that I use for development). My guess is that the Unity team must have changed something about how Linux builds are handled. I will contact them and see if they are able to fix it in a coming update.

HI!

How did U manage to install the linux version ?

I'm on 15.04 ubuntu version....

Regards.

I'm wondering the same. Can't install it. Seems like it wants to use Wine, but that won't do.

I'm not a linux user myself but here are some general tips that might guide you on your way:

FPV Freerider is distributed as a Linux executable, not a package. Create a "bin" folder in your home directory, this isn't necessary but traditionally, binary executables go in the bin folder. Unzip the FPVFreerider_linux.zip file into that directory. Open FPVFreerider. Right click on the appropriate executable for your system (32 or 64 bit), and select 'Properties'. Click the 'Permissions' tab. At the bottom of that tab check: 'Execute: Allow executing file as a program'. Now when you want to play, just double click that icon.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that and it still won't load. When I double click the appropriate icon, I get a quick black full screen like it's trying to load, then it disappears. Not the end of the word as I still have some Windows machine where it works. Wonder if it's a graphics card issue?

Hi, Which graphics card do you have? If you happen to have Nvidia, have you enabled the proprietary driver? Do other games work?

No, just a standard Intel card. Never played any other games, so I'm not sure. Don't have any games on this machine.
