Hey everyone,

I've just released my indie game, A Gentle Brick-breaker, on Itch.io, and I'm really excited to get some feedback from you!

A Gentle Brick-breaker offers a fresh twist on the classic brick-breaking genre by incorporating realistic destruction physics that make every hit feel satisfying. However, I’m eager to hear your thoughts on how it plays and what could be improved.

This is my first full development project, so your feedback is incredibly valuable to me. I’ve also created a trailer for the game, and I’m curious if you find it convincing. Do you think it effectively captures what the game is about? Is there anything you’d suggest changing or adding to make it more attractive?

Here are some key features I’d love your feedback on:

  • Destruction Physics: How do the bricks feel when they break apart? Does it add to the gameplay experience, or could it be improved?
  • Gameplay Balance: Is the game relaxing and enjoyable as intended? Do you feel it’s paced well, or are there areas that could use adjustment?
  • Customizable Backgrounds: I’ve added the option to use your own images as the game’s background. How easy is it to use, and does it enhance your experience?
  • Controls: With multiple control options available (A/D keys, arrows, mouse), I’m curious which one you prefer and why. Do the controls feel intuitive and responsive?
  • Visual Style: The game has a pixelated retro aesthetic. I’d love to know if this style works for you or if there’s anything that could be tweaked to improve it.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback you have! Whether it’s about the gameplay, visuals, the trailer, or anything else, your input is invaluable in helping me improve the game and making it more enjoyable for everyone.

Thank you so much for taking the time to try out my game and share your thoughts! It means a lot to me, and I’m looking forward to hearing what you think.

Feel free to ask any questions or leave your feedback below!

Left you some feedback, really cool ASMR-style game! My game is over here, if you wouldn't mind sharing your experience on the game page: https://wasabiiii.itch.io/grass-elemental-demo-demo; Any feedback would be much appreciated!

- The brick breaking is very relaxing and satisfying, and definitely helps the experience. If it were to be improved (which I don't think is necessary), I guess you could make the sfx a bit more juicy and ear-tickly.

- The game is very relaxing, I think you accomplished your goal quite well! The pacing is okay, but for me I'd think about putting in an option to adjust the speed of the bricks falling down. Just a tad too slow for my taste, but it's really a nitpick.

-  The background option certainly enhances the experience by giving the player the freedom to do so. Other than finding the right folder to put it in, I think it's a decently easy-to-use feature.

- I actually wasn't aware you could use the mouse! From what I played (using the arrow keys, as I am more used to them) the controls were intuitive and responsive, but a degree of attention is required to score well. Overshooting and undershooting the ball is still very possible in the current version, and to me that adds stakes to the gameplay.

- I don't think I've seen this style of pixilation in many games, the shader use is quite unique. I don't think it needs to be improved, but if you really want to push the retro part of the aesthetic, I'd probably bump the resolution down or go for a more minimal palette.

Great work and please keep this up!

Thank you so much!!

This review really motivates me to make an update! These are really great suggestions!!

And of course, I'll be happy to try your game and review it!

I just release an update after the revew ! Go customize everything and create your own gamemode !

Really like the look of this and the rain collecting on the blocks is neat.

So my first thought was to do something more with the mechanics, you already have a nice look and sound. I would suggest doing something more with the water and instead of the game just ending when the blocks get to the bottom, have the water slowly build up as you play and instead of game over when the block hits the bottom, have them float in the water. This would work on a couple levels, it would give the ball a chance to bounce off the floating block and also free up move movement for the paddle, you could also set up stacks of floating blocks on the bottom to create cool combos and ricochets.  You would need to think of a new game over condition though, which could be the ball lands in the water, or the floating blocks stack to high.

Also I think something could be done more with the pattern of the blocks, would be neat if they built little reservoirs to collect more water as they came down, or were in a more interesting pattern :)

A lot you can do with it :)

Thanks a lot ! that a really good idea ! i wanted to do something to keep the level running a little bit longer than just ~25 score max, and that is a neat idea ! Im writting it down !
