Devil's Punishment is an upcoming sci-fi/post-apocalyptic survival horror 3D game with FPS (First person shooter) mechanics and an original setting and story based in a book scene, where a group of prisoners are left behind in an abandoned underground facility.

The story

"A thousand years have passed since the asteroid impact that destroyed the Earth. Now the Exodus, the spaceship that saved mankind, has returned again to the planet. The crew (held inside of cryogenic chambers for centuries) of the massive spaceship had only the best of the best: scientists, novel awarded people, physicists, soldiers, etc. But in all this greatness of people there are some that were able to sneak up inside the giant spaceship the day that the human race was saved. Those who weren’t chosen to be saved were locked in prison, and are now forced to do workforce and used as cannon fodder for very dangerous labours inside the underground city of Last Hope, 1 of the 2 remaining underground cities of the entire planet.

The exterior of this new Earth seems to be very damaged, hostile and there’s too much carbon dioxide in the air to be able to breath normally. For this the people of Last Hope remain hidden at all times underground. No one is allowed to go to the surface, but it is necessary to go out now since the underground city’s communication is not working. They can’t contact the other city which is thousand of miles away and sending an exploration crew would be too risky, since it is too far and out of reach. The best solution is fixing it manually, but the only way to reach the communication underground building is by entering through the surface.

Some days passed since the first exploration crew was sent to fix this communication issue, but contact was lost with them. The most reasonable explanation for this was that part of the underground tunnels collapsed and killed them. Another exploration crew was assembled, this time with a bunch of prisoners, since the labor seemed risky enough. And so the new group of people, soldiers alongside prisoners, were sent to fix the underground facility and the communication issue.

As they went deeper and deeper through the darkness of the underground tunnels they found themselves lost and constantly watched by something. Then some horrifying creatures appeared from the tunnels and caves and in matter of seconds half of the group was dead. A few prisoners were lucky enough and hid inside a room and were able to lock and block the door, but the creatures are coming for them and the door won’t last forever.”

The horror starts

You take the role of one of the surviving prisoners of the crew sent to fix the underground communications building and you start trapped inside a storage room. It is up to you to look for ways to escape this room before the blocked door collapses and allow the horror creatures to get you. Your goal is to escape this underground facility alive, but to do this you will first have to get rid of your cuffs and then find 3 missing pieces of a generator, which will give you access to an upper level of the map where the exit is located.

Game Features

  • The map randomly generates every time the game/match restarts.
  • Items and weapons are randomly scattered in the map every time the game/match restarts.
  • An inventory to store your items and weapons.
  • The maze-like underground facility is in total darkness so the prisoners must use flashlights or other sources of light to advance through it.
  • Play the game solo or cooperate with up to 10 players.
  • All the prisoners start the game cuffed and can't use guns or flashlights. You'll need to find a device to uncuff yourself.
  • Impredictable horrifying creatures that stalk and can easily kill the prisoners at any time during the match that come in various sizes and behaviour.
  • Prisoners can deal with the creatures either using weapons to kill them or hiding from them.
  • Prisoners can get infected if a creature hits them. (If they get infected they have a certain amount of time before turning into a creature and dying. They can't play as a creature.)
  • When a player dies the game gets more difficult.
  • When activating the generator the game gets more difficult.
  • Text chat and voice chat.
  • The game/match ends when all the players are dead.

Devil's Punishment Devlog #1

Welcome to the first devlog of Devil’s Punishment! We intend to have weekly updates for everyone to see, so stay tuned with us and read what we have to show for this week.

Programming

In the programming laboratories we are currently working in the main menu of the game. The design is already done and discussed, it just needs to be implemented in the actual game.

Also we are currently working in the map generation system.

Modeling & Animations

The modeling & animation team has been busy this week creating various environment pieces that we will be using in the map. They have finished the corridors that we will be using in it. And are currently working in diverse map rooms at the moment.

Our character modeler is already working in one of the creatures that will appear in the game.

Our animator is also almost done with all the animations of the prisoner/player character.

Here is a small sneak peek of the progress made:

Art

The art team has finished the parasite concept and our character modeler is modeling it as we speak. I’d show you some footage of this but it’ll remain in suspense for now, since I wouldn’t want to spoil the “bad guys” in the game. I want it to be a surprise.

Sound Design

The sound design department has made a couple of new additional ambience tracks for the game.

Game Design

In the game design team there are no news for now or any relevant changes for the game or design of things.

State of the game at this moment:

Game Programming: ~50% done.

3D Modeling:

3D Items ~100% done.

3D Characters 20% done.

3D Environmetal Models ~22% done

Animations:

FPS Animations 100% done.
Character Animations ~20% done.

Art ~42% done.

Music & Sound Effects 100% done.

Game Design 100% done.

What’s next to come?

We will be showing a small gameplay of some of our mechanics already done soon, so stay tuned!

Devil's Punishment Devlog #2

Welcome to the second devlog of Devil’s Punishment! We intend to have weekly updates for everyone to see, so stay tuned with us and read what we have to show for this week.

Programming

During this week our programmers have been busy working in some bugs related with the FPS system and the main menu of the game. We’ve also started working in the networkig of the game. And we also have a couple of new members in the team.

Here’s a small footage of programmed mechanics working in the game:

Modeling & Animations

The modeling & animation team is currently working in the various rooms of the map and our 3D Character Modeler has finished the parasite model, but it still needs some texturing. Also our animator has finished more animations for the prisoner character.

Here you have some footage:

Art

Our artist is currently working in the spider creature of the game, as before, we don’t want to spoil any of our creatures yet.

Sound Design

There are no news in the sound design department.

Game Design

We’ve changed the way that our light items will work. Now, we will be having an attached device to the prisoner’s character that will first have a “glowstick” function and can be upgraded to work as a flashlight. All prisoners will start with this light device.

State of the game at this moment:

Game Programming: ~50% done.

3D Modeling:

3D Items ~100% done.

3D Characters 20% done.

3D Environmetal Models ~22% done

Animations:

FPS Animations 100% done.
Character Animations ~20% done.
