9944 just doesn't work

Tried installing version 9944 and it just doesn't work, I use the regular version NT,  the sound effects are all jumbled, I tried using ntt_development version, it tells me its too new, I tried using modbranch 2021 and now it just doesn't open at all. I have no idea what I could have possibly be doing wrong, and even before trying to change to 9944, when I was using 9940 I tried using toggle steam and it told me  "That's not a known option." I even copied and pasted the 2 directly from the list and still said that.

  • 9940 should be installed over the stable u99 release
  • 9944 should be installed over modbranch_2021
  • ntt_development has NTT pre-installed

well I'm having the same problem, even if I do install 9944 over modbranch_2021 it will just not open after I run the install. The exe just doesn't run.

To be completely honest, it’s a little hard to guess what could be going wrong with code that I wrote 5 years ago

I bet people on game’s Discord would have more ideas than me at this point.

I found a way

after installing 9944 over modbranch_2021 rename the original NT to something else, rename NTT to "nuclearthrone" and open it through steam

Prengus,  your solution worked for me. Thank you.

just wanna reply for others looking for a solution this works

i dont understand a thing about this post lol, but i do have the issue with the scrambled sounds. original (steam) nt does work properly but ntte has this audio issue that is unbearable. does anyone know how to fix it? i have no idea what modbranch_2021 is

Developer

modbranch_2021 is a “beta” branch on Steam, you can switch to it using “Properties” (in right-click menu of the library)

I'm not home right now, so i can't really test it, but does this beta branch fix the audio issue? If not, what can i do?

Developer

The audio issue happens because the game’s audio files are numbered and NTT copies these as-is, but the order can change between game/GameMaker versions, so installing NTT on top of a game version that’s too old or too new can cause mind-boggling effects with different sounds playing instead of the ones you would expect.

What would be the right version to use? I'm trying to get into mods again because of the upcoming update and i knew most mods would go useless, all i wanna do is play territorial expansion wich is a banger mod.

Developer

According to a post above yours, people had success with installing 9944 over modbranch_2021 beta branch on Steam.
