The AI soldiers out flank each other after about twenty minutes of playing and run off into the distance,

I think you should make them die like the player does, that'd be neat.  Because otherwise you're left on an empty battlefield after awhile.

Also, the game freezes after about an hour, everything stops.

I think this is more of a server overload thing though.  So not quite as important...
