Tyrlo Online

Hello everyone!

My name is Ruslan, and I am developing a pet project — a game called TyrloOnline.

It's already at a stage where you can play it, so I would like to invite everyone interested to try out the game and share constructive feedback about what you think works well and what doesn't, potential improvements, and your overall impression. I've noticed that there's currently a trend for restyling long-forgotten old games/movies that were once successful. My game also draws on one such game. I'm sure you know which game I'm talking about =)

You can try the game at this link: https://lemanrass.itch.io/tyrlo-online

Here is a very brief description of the gameplay:

TyrloOnline is an online game for up to four players in a single room, where each player has their own color and uses it to paint a shared field. Boxes with weapons and various power-ups frequently appear on the field, which can be used against other players or to enhance your character, allowing you to paint more and faster! Cells of your color can be exchanged for coins when you pick up a special box with a coin symbol on it. Each round is time-limited, and the player who collects the most coins at the end of the game wins.

We think the game is promising; my friends and I occasionally play Tyrlo, and we also try to play with the community we are gathering on Discord — and it's fun. It's a great way for us to have a good time after work. But we would like more feedback from different people to better understand the direction in which we should proceed.

Why we think the game is interesting:

1. Dynamic battle for domination over a shared territory by several players.

2. Two viable strategies: the path of fire, picking up weapon boxes and accumulate coins by knocking them out of opponents, and the path of peace, focusing on painting territories and collecting coins from them. There are also supporting mechanics to ensure both paths remain viable.

3. Skill determines everything. It's a session-based game where everyone always starts under the same conditions without any external influences such as levels or donations. Thus, every game is a fair fight.

4. Short game session. Just a minute and a half of intense action, convenient for playing on the go or while waiting for something when you don't have much free time. Additionally, the game launches quickly, taking less than a minute from start to battle.

5. Built on the latest Photon Quantum network engine, ensuring precise game execution, making the game comfortably playable even with a 100ms ping.

6. Based on the Unity engine, which has a controversial reputation on one hand, but on the other, allows the game to run on a variety of platforms (Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, iOS, PlayStation, XBOX, Switch, WebGL (browser)), enabling players from all these platforms to play together.

7. After each match, each player has a chance to receive something from the in-game store for free, and the higher your rank, the greater the chance of receiving a rare item for free, and the tougher the opponents you will face. So, maintaining a high rank has the added benefit of obtaining free items from the store.

8. There are situations when someone is playing too well and can't be caught up with. In most games, this means there's no point in playing to the end. Therefore, in many session-based games, there is an option to surrender. In this game, first place gets a star (as a step towards the next rank) and second place does not lose a star. So, it makes sense to fight at least for second place if first is no longer achievable.

9. About donations. The game will have a store where there will be a large number of customizations for your character. All customizations will only affect the appearance of your character. Additionally, any customization might drop for free after a battle. And the higher your rank, the higher the chance to receive a donation item.

10. Variety of future events. For example, a Christmas event where a Christmas tree might stand in the middle of the field shooting randomly in different directions with Christmas baubles occasionally hitting someone as an additional hazard to consider, a Halloween event might feature scarecrows in the field that activate from time to time and if someone is nearby they get stunned, larger maps with more people on the map, group battles 2x2 or 3x3, and so on.

P. S.

The game is still in development, therefore some features described above briefly or not yet ready and mentioned only as a plan we have. The game on the current stage is at the minimal viable version made to see if people have interest to it. So, if you like the game and want it to grow into complete product, please, leave a comment or like, join our Discord community: https://discord.gg/FpXhSG7C7q, recommend to friends, share somewhere,  etc. We need your support. Thanks in advance!
