saves and settings are in their own place in the computer files so that you can change versions easily you can find them in the folder at appdata>local>votv (this is also where you can add assets for the custom stuff like the radio and tv and posters and 3D printer, and add your native monitor resolution to a file labelled res.txt in assets)
You likely don't need to do anything there though, it sounds like you need to regenerate your data.sav file, which can be done properly from the in-game settings. Go to the settings page, and in the tab labelled game (I think it's that tab anyway, can't check right now), there is a setting labelled "regenerate data.sav", with a button simply labelled regenerate. Click it and restart, and you should be able to keep playing as normal, though you may have to re-do all your settings.
