GameSandwich is an android game I'm making to teach myself the art of the indie dev. I've been making it since September/2018.
The game is a mashup of different gameplay elements in different levels tied together with a score.
In each level I learn to do more/different things, and as a result you can see my abilities grow with each level.

Level 1 is what the game started out as and subsequent levels would have originally followed the same idea with more complex obstacles, however, I wanted to learn to do more than just level design, so I started doing more. It's essentially bowling but with obstacles.

In Level 2 I keep the bowling formula, but I learned how to make my own 3d models in this level. (I updated level 1 a bit with some models once I learned) in this level you are a car on your way to work or something, but its a crazy world where cars don't have breaks. Avoid relentless traffic or you'll be plunged into the infinite abyss and have to start from the beginning.

In level 3 I was getting bored of only moving left and right and wanted to learn how to move objects in all directions. So keeping to the same formula of go forward and avoid the obstacles I put the player in control of a spaceship. You have to avoid the various space rocks and enemy drones, while collecting energy to charge up your laser which will be used to destroy the enemy mothership at the end. I also started messing around with particle systems.  (also I'm aware the picture doesn't display level 3 this scene was initially used as level 4 before I diverged from the bowling formula)

In level 4 I was bored of the player always moving forward like a scroller, at this point I was getting pretty familiar with coding, so I made the dragonfly simulator level. Your mission is to gather tasty mosquitoes hidden around a serene river. But take care to avoid the frogs, falcons, and fish which are all looking to make you into a snack. While developing this level I learned how to animate 3d models using Blender. I also learned a lot about designing enemy AI and Navmesh.

And finally in level 5 I just really wanted to make a Tower Defense level. Unlike typical TD games, you can't actually lose. Instead of a lives system, if you fail to protect your castle from being hit by the dastardly goblin army, points will be deducted from your score. Luckily, any gold you have left over at the end of the level will be converted into points and added to your score. I went hardcore with the navmesh system in this but also learned a lot more about coding.

That's all I have finished so far, but I'm planning on making a dungeon crawling level, a pirate ship battle level, a boss rush kind of deal (using the same character from the dungeon crawl) and finally, a surprise final level (no spoilers sorry ^.^) If your interested in following my development check out my page here on itch. I'm pretty new to itch so idk if theres following or anything like that, but do that too, or you can follow my twitter for updates, it's linked on my itch page ^.^. Thanks for reading! If you try the game, leave me some feedbacks ^.^. Hoogle out ^>^
