Hey folks! Bit of background - I want to get into the games industry, and am looking at doing a PgCert in September. In preparation, I was advised to complete the junior programmer pathway on unity learn, which I have done. This game started off as one of the tutorials, but as I have learned more I have added lots of features to it. I’m hoping to make something similar for an educational game I’m planning to create for my MSc dissertation (MSc biomedical engineering) so any constructive feedback would be much appreciated!
Basically it’s a casual arcade-style game, where you have 2 minutes to feed dogs to build your score. Each of the 3 breeds can only eat one type of food, although if you get a power-up you temporarily have sandwiches which you can throw to feed any dog, for a reduced point value. You start with limited food (less at higher difficulty levels) and you can collect more during the game. You lose a life if you collide with a dog, if you feed the wrong foo, or if you let a dog get past without food. You start with fewer lives at higher difficulty levels, but can collect extra lives throughout the game. Spawn rate, speed etc is the same at all difficulty levels. There are tool tips if you mouse over the dogs, food etc, and also some hints appear when you are running low on resources. There are custom win/lose screens and you can pause the game with P.
I have already added additional features (such as the aim assist line, limited food etc) based on feedback from friends who have played it, so I will definitely take suggestions on board! Particularly interested in thoughts regarding spawn rate, length of game, amounts of lives/food etc - basically I would like to know if it is too easy/difficult and suggestions on how to tweak it at the different levels to improve it. Also thoughts on the controls would be welcome. And anything else you think of, naturally!!
