Find evidence and select ghost in the journal before trying to catch her. If you did not select her and catch her or even knock her down you will not get money for ghost identification.
I am finding all the clues, marking the correct ghost in the journal, then banishing them, and not getting attacked by them. Although most of the time I'm still not getting any points for identifying the ghost.
