slow motion and options not applying

When i set my game to anything above 60 fps the game seems to run in slow motion while still at 60 fps. The framerate and game speed stay consistent without any stuttering, but at 120 fps everything moves at half speed, and half of that at 240 fps. Also, i tried turning off outlines and changing player and cursor colors in options.ini, but these changes don't apply when i launched the game.

I own the game on epic and am launching it from steam. So far i've tried:

  • restarting steam
  • renaming Steamworks.gml.dll
  • removing Steamworks.gml.dll
  • re-extracting options.ini
  • removing options.ini
  • setting AlternateSyncMethod=1 (which caused my game to stop responding as soon as it launched)

This is what i added in options.ini

[Colors]
Outlines=0
0=#FF0000
[Visual]
SinglePlayerCursorColor=#fffff

Sorry if this is an obvious fix or i missed another post about it. The game does work fine at 60 fps though, so i'm happy with it.

If you have a non-60hz display, there’s a bug in the GameMaker version used that breaks frame pacing on recent-ish Windows 10 updates. You can:

  • Force the game to be 30 or 60fps in NVIDIA Control Panel if you have that
  • Try the ntt-testing beta branch on Steam (which uses a current GameMaker version)
  • Use this workaround

Capping the framerate and using the workaround didn't help, but the beta branch fixed it. The game runs at normal speed now at any framerate. Also realized i was changing options in the wrong ini file, so all my issues are fixed thanks!
