Greetings my great apes! My first Itch.io game: Space Monkeys is a playable demo.

lewyt.itch.io/space-monkeys

I would like to develop this game update regularly with new features.

Here is a list of features I want to add but need help deciding which should be added first:

  • can save progress
  • more levels
  • progressive difficulty
  • different styles of play (base building, recon, squad assault, defense, etc.)
  • boss battles
  • character selection screen
  • can play as marsh monsters
  • computer controlled characters intelligence improvements
  • story mode see [STORY] section
  • money: buy and sell resources
  • respawn map: different colors for friend/enemy
  • can change view: first person vs 3rd person
  • command other friendly units
  • level system
  • skill tree
  • destructible world object system that changes an items appearance as it is damaged
  • procedural trees
  • build: gun turret
  • build: building structures take time
  • tunnels / dungeons

Thanks a bunch, LewyT

Your link doesn't work, had to go through your profile. When it comes to development a good rule of thumb is to focus on the core gameplay loop first, before thinking about adding additional content. So as long as you have a basic setup of characters thus far, that means adding things like tunnels/dungeon's, more playable characters, more level's, difficulties, or a story mode, etc. would be premature.

Focus on things like the skill tree, level system, money system, character select screen (if you already have enough characters) so you can add to it later, commanding allies, 3rd/first person view, etc. In other words, focus on fleshing out what you CAN DO before adding more things TO DO. Assuming story mode has a story, that should probably come last once all your gameplay elements, characters, and maps are implemented.

Thanks for the feedback Sysop-Delco! I fixed the link above.

Good points Majid Roth Media, I will make another video soon.

Hi friends, I have a new version available. You can download and launch the game through the itch app if you like. New video coming soon. This version (0.31) ticks off the “save progress” option.
