Hey guys! I'm back and this time we draw an "8 Eye" from Final Fantasy, a slime creature that has many eyes. Quick reference:
So I'll be using a 32x32px space. It's your choice what colors you want to use but I'm going to use red goo and blue eyes. Sketch out a triangular blob with many eyes, some squinting.
Then sketch lighting around the eyes. Generally the upper lids brighter, the lower lids darker.
Sketch some irregular gooey bumps between the eyes. Also try darkening around the eye whites.
"Apply some slime", meaning add some small points of reflection where you think light would hit strongly. I'd say those are the upper eyelids for the most part, but maybe also some of the other protruding goo shapes.
He looks ok, but if you look in the preview window I have, he still looks flat shaded. I cone shade him, the right side being brighter, the left side being darker. You can see the subtle difference in the preview windows above and below.
The eye sizes look too uniform and boring so I vary a few of them too be larger but don't make too many giant eyes or he'll becomes less of a slime creature and more of just a mass of giant eyes.
I wanted his center eye to be more unique and dominant compared to the other eyes so I took it a step further and gave it a larger iris.
Lastly a slightly shift his shadows towards blue, I was looking through various designs of the creature and I noticed some are entirely blue while others are subtly tinted blue.
And here is my progress with Final Fantasy creatures, it almost makes a square!
If you made it this far, thanks for reading and I'll see you later!
