[GameDev Team or Individuals][advice] Creating low brow and cheeky-fun 2D Isometric Action Rouguelike

Hi everyone, and thanks for even making it this far to read! Apologies if this doesn't follow this guidelines

I have been DESTROYING all sorts of games my whole life and now I feel like making a game for myself is finally in grasp and I am very excited to have a personal project to inject hundreds of man hours into. I have been drawing and tattooing my whole adult life and I can actually contribute to some of the art side involved (@choc666 is my personal tattoo page and @wa_ink_tattoo is my business}.

I am a bit longer in the tooth than most people starting their own game, but I am also finacially stable. Depending on what is possible with my time and money - I have a budget of around 5-20K and can work a good 10-20 hours per week for however long the project requires.

I am looking to make a 2d Isometric Roguelike, with the low brow theme and art throughout. Instead of killing all the monsters to kill the boss and save the world - You are a young little punk looking to save your bandmates from their parents' house and get the the city, play your show and get the girls!

I want a suburbia, train station, city, and pub/club worlds to run around in as you use your musical instruments and house hold items to tear through the humanoids in your teenage nightmare. Through your party travels collecting ur bandmates, different illicit substances/paraphernalia can power you and your weapons up. Passive upgrades to have either a musical or party theme.

I could go on,  but im assuming you get a fair idea. What I am looking for is as follows...

Advice and/or help of the things I need to flesh this out with every part of this process.

I am very open to ideas and have the time and a bit of money to be taken seriously. I'm not sure what to expect, but I am beyond excited to get a start on a serious-hobby style project that I can sink some solid hours into and hopefully bring some fun to everyone else! Would loove to know where to start and get the ball rolling!

Thanks!

Hi!
I like the general idea, but I'm not sure about it as a roguelike game, since the basic concept for these kind of games are the repetitiveness of the game (or sections of it) with randomly generated rooms.
As you describe, it seems more a RPG or an action game.
Think about how Binding of Isaac, Hades or Moonlighter works.
Another point is about "different illicit substances/paraphernalia can power you and your weapons up". I see the point of making something different, but use drugs as power up could have a negative impact on the public opinion playing the game, as it seems they are not used in a parody way.

Last think, is it going a project made by your own or joining with someone else?

I am open to the the paraphernalia being toned down a little bit, but i do a like a cheeky reference (as much as a nerdy demographic can handle). i dont think i want it to be RPG - I just meant the "worlds" as in dungeon art style like below

Dungeon 1 is a suburbia style dungeon {streets, houses, delis) and bosses can be band mates parents and the boss level is the house u go to at the ned of the level.

Dungeon 2 can be house and a final train station at the end, boss is police or train ticketer and u fight him on a train level on the way to the city which is dungeon 3

Dungeon 3 can be the ciry on the way to a pub location at the end. boss is the promoter/owner/dealer.

I think the repetitiveness is good, cause partying and playing a new show happens EVERY WEEKEND! (maybe each run u do can be a different weekend on a calendar?) each run after u beat it can be a new set or song u are trying to play at the end boss? I dunno. it could be cool. Does that make any sense?

As far as getting started on this myself. What should i plan first? story? level design? character design? weapons and damage systems?

I'm not 100% exactly sure of the work involved in a project like this, so I am open to being in a team as it may require skills outside my expertise or what I can outsource.

Thanks guys this is appreciated  so much!

Can you make El Silla?

I agree, I know this is a bit of a reach this probably isn't a way to approach this project. I am looking to spread my wings into a new project and do some learning! I am technologically apt and have been using photoshop and tattooing for 15 years. Although I have no experience is game development, I can 100% make myself useful in most of the artistic pursuits required in this project. I just need to be shown what to do/use.

Thanks for chiming in lol! hehe
