HP question

Hi! This game looks awesome. I'm a noob to OSR games (and I'm no expert on TTRPGs in general), and picked this one to GM with my kids, after reading about a few. I'm trying to grasp everything before we start, and am thinking about this situation:

Let's say my kid rolls a 1 for starting HP.  That will always be their max HP, right? (i.e. after every short rest they only refill back to 1 HP.)  So, let's say a monster hits them for 2, and maybe they have a little armor or maybe not.. They are going to be taking a lot of scars and/or STR reduction, right?  It seems a bit rough, and has me wondering if I should just let them start with 5-6 HP.  But I'm probably missing something, maybe something implied from the ItO rules, or OSRs in general...?

Thanks for any tips! I'm stoked to play.

(Edit -- I looked at the rules a little more, and looked up some things about ItO, and.. I guess losing STR is just ok, and you'll want to find a healer in a town at some point soon if you get too low. I think that is good flavor that we can live with. Better than dying at 0HP, heh. Still interested in any thoughts, thanks!)

(2nd Edit -- I just saw that you reroll HP when you get a scar!  ok!  this is excellent.)

Scars happen at 0 HP. STR does not heal without magic or time. HP refreshes after a few minutes rest!

For kids, you'll definitely need to up the HP or plot armor. You'll need to be careful they don't get killed straightaway; teach them to be careful. I'm general avoid too much instant death with kiddos.

I encourage you to join the NSR Discord - we talk about this stuff a lot!

Perfect, thanks!  I will join the Discord :)
