Hi,

I like the look of your game and I would love to get into it and give you some feedback.

However, the game crashes within 30 seconds of starting.  I can't find the crash files to send you, if you let me know where they dump, I will happy to forward them to you.

The crashes occur if I let the intro text play through and before the loading screen come up. If I skip the intro text, I pick up a couple rocks, and then it crashes.

All the best,

Zaddo

Have you ran earlier versions or is this the first time you've played? It isn't crashing for me but I'm looking into it. I play tested the update before I uploaded but it may not have uploaded correctly.  Thank you.

Also, did you download the itch.io desktop app and install the game with it or did you just download the files?

This is my first time playing the game. So I have only played version 13.  I had a look to see if I could download older versions, but I couldn't find a way to do this.

I am installing with the download files. I will try the itch.io desktop app.

BTW, I am on windows 11, GTX3060Ti, i9-12900K, 32GB RAM.

I installed the Itch.IO app.  Interestingly, it said I have owned your game for 3 years :)

I get the same issue running it through the itch.io app.  I can't get too much detail on the crash. I just have one error in the event log, which is the same as the WER file:

I tried version 11 and Version 12.  All crash on my system.  I turned my AV off completely. This didn't make a difference, I also tried running in windows 8 compatability mode, bit this also didn't work.

There is something in my system that Windstone does not like :(

I can't think of anything else to try to make it work.

I have not had any other reports of the game crashing and I can't find any issue on my end so it seems like you may be right in guessing that there is something your system does not like. I assume it is an issue with Windows 11. The only thing I can think of to suggest is to uninstall completely, delete all Windstone files and then reinstall the itch app and make sure to only download Windstone with the app. Downloading the files and trying to run them without the app has caused many issues with playtesters in the past, but downloading and installing the game with the itch app always solved their problem because the itch app automatically installs extra required files that are not in the direct download.

Hey,

I tried the full uninstall,  cleared any references in the registry and profile, then reinstalled.  No joy unfortunately :(  It still crashes a few seconds after loading into the initial game scene.

But I was able to install Windstone on two other windows 10 computers and it worked fine.

The only possible cause I could find was OpenSSL* SHA Crash Bug Requires Application Update (intel.com  But changing this environment setting didn't fix the problem.

I know you must be busy and so I am happy to leave it at that. But if you find more players have the same problem, I would be happy to help you try and resolve the issue with further testing or running a debug build.

All the best :)

Thank you for confirming that the build works on other computers. It seems that it is an issue with Windows 11. Hopefully a future windows update will resolve it. If I come across anything I'll let you know.
