LINGUISTICA - LANGUAGE ISLAND
You are stranded on a remote island. Unfortunately, you do not speak the main language of the island. Lucky for you, you are found by the granddaughter of a woman who knows your language. The grandmother explains to you about how you are not the first this happened to. She then explains the people in the area are pretty good about helping people learn the language of the island. She teaches you the first game and gives you your first group of words to learn from.
PROGRESS - UPDATE
I have word lists of about 2000 words in 5 Languages, I am organizing the groups and order of appearance. Four of the mini games have been started with three being nearly complete. Added support for Japanese and Russian Alphabets, also added nearly 800 words for each of them into the word lists.
LANGUAGES
Currently the list contains 5 languages, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and English. Spanish/Italian are the most complete. Your learning can go between any two languages and in any direction. I hope to add several languages over time, including Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, and Arabic.
MINI GAMES
Memory - 90% Complete
Your first mini game is a 3x4 grid of cards you must find the matching pairs. How quickly can you find the pairs? Still need to add the language lists and replace the number matching.
Wild Horse - 90% Complete
A "non-violent" version of Hangman, this is your second minigame. How many words can you translate before guessing 9 wrong letters? Wrong letters add parts to the horse, the full horse means the end of the mini game. Wild horse is nearly complete. The keyboard is dynamic based on the language of the words, with German containing all three umlauts and the ss character ß.
Repeat after me - 75%
Repeat After Me is a digital version of the old electronic game Simon. RAM will display a sequence of words and phrases. Every time you enter the corresponding sequence onto the board, you advance a level. As your level advances, you will get new words and longer sequences. How quickly can you enter the sequence? Don't get one wrong or you start the sequence over. About the same progress as Memory.
Match 'em - Just started
a quick match game where you match the word and translation from groups of 10. How many times can you get them all right?
I hope to have at least 10 minigames. I will post more info as I get the ones designed working.
MAIN GAME
The main map is currently set to be a 2D 3/4 view similar to Stardew Valley. I still need to do or get the artwork for the levels
You travel around the world getting clues to find new lists of words. As you progress in proficiency for the words you gain more conversation options. People are more likely to challenge you to play mini games if you are at a select proficiency level in a specified word category. There will be over 100 categories. Certain areas will only unlock when you reach a specified ranking in all categories of the area. Categories include Greetings, Numbers, Colors, People, Verbs, The Human Body, and many more.
NPCs
All NPCs will have a specific pattern they follow, that changes based on you progress in certain categories. Some NPCs will play specific mini games others will let you choose a game. Conversations will alter based on progress. I hope to figure out how to make the conversation immersive along the way.
Things I Still Need to Do
2D Art (Characters and Environment)
Maps (Basic movement is done)
Mini Games - about 7 more
Sound
Story and Dialogue - Flesh out and complete the story and design the dialog tree.
Translations - Once the story is completed, get it translated so it can be played in any language.
Category and mini game unlocking - will be based on finding items or going places. The bank in the late game will unlock the banking category and an economy based mini game.
Things I would Like to Add
Voices - in all language for all words male and female
Mission System
Anything else I think would add to the immersion.
Thank you for reading.
