License clarification

Hi there!

As this looks promising, I'd like to clarify the license, that is: if I purchase it, will I get lifetime updates? Access to source code (considering if the project is being dropped later, as a developer, I might want to continue using it, just saying)?

For now, the existing statement should reflect / include such details:

In order to download this application you must purchase it at or above the minimum price of $11.99 USD. You will get access to the following files.

Thanks & waiting for feedback!

Hi, thanks for your interest.

I’m not sure what the future holds as far as licensing goes. It’s almost impossible to sustain development, forever, on one-time purchases with perpetual updates, which is why you see so many similar projects moving to subscriptions.

Purchasing Deepdwn today grants you access to the Deepdwn version that’s released today. It’s possible that there may not be updates in the future for any number of foreseeable and unforeseeable reasons.

Some transparency: it’s possible that some future Deepdwn version will be treated as a separate product (ex: Deepdwn 2.0 - Electric Boogaloo), and current purchasers would not have access to it by default. It’s possible that’s an entirely new editor, that either does or does not share the Deepdwn name. It’s also possible (but most unlikely, despite it making the most financial sense), that it would be subscription-based.

I’m working on Deepdwn as a passion project, and making well under minimum wage doing so.

Access to source code

Purchasing a license doesn’t grant access to the source code. That may change in the future, but not any time soon.

The existing statement should reflect / include such details

The existing statement is itch.io stock text and can’t be changed, but I’ll see about adding clarifying statements somewhere or other.

Hi,

I totally understand it. Thanks for the feedback!

All the best with the sales!
