Broken Ascension is the first book in my Trystero science fiction series. 

The tag "space opera" gets applied to a lot of stuff, virtually anything sci-fi these days, but the reality is, most of it doesn't fit the bill. Space opera is big adventure, lots of stakes and underdogs dealing with what feels like impossible odds. 

With Broken Ascension, I took a different approach to the traditional "hero." Drake isn't a bad ass, nor does he start off as a simpering coward and magically turn into a bad ass. He's an artist surrounded by people a lot braver than him and needs to find a way to help out, but he needs to do it while remaining true to himself. 

That includes finding out who he is and what he values.
