This is a temporary topic until Deepdwn has a support site up and running with this info, or it’s answered in the app itself (better).
How do I add categories and tags? How do I use them?
Categories and tags can be added to your documents with a format known as frontmatter. Frontmatter is a yaml format used to add meta information to your document
Frontmatter is wrapped in three dashes and appears at the very beginning of your document, like this:
---
title: My Favorite Books
tags:
- books
- lists
category: Blog posts
---
Documents can have one category, and multiple tags. Here, the document is titled My Favorite Books
, at has two tags, and it’s in the category Blog posts
. Your documents can have any other fields you wish (useful when using Deepdwn to manage documents for other markdown engines, like Jekyll), but only title
, tags
and category
are used by Deepdwn itself.
After the file is saved, the list of categories and tags in Deepdwn’s Filter panel (on the left) will update, showing the tags and categories used in this and any other documents, and the number of files using them.
Clicking on one of these will filter the visible files in the Files panel. You can further filter within these using the search field, but only one filter can active selected at a time (currently).
Can I resize these panels? Can I hide them?
You can double click the heading for the Filters
, Files
, and Outline
panels to toggle their expanded and collapsed state (or pressing enter or space when they’re focused with the keyboard).
You can resize the panels by clicking dragging the separators between them with the mouse, or using the arrow keys when the separator is focused via keyboard.
You can also collapse and expand the Tags
, Categories
and Folders
sections by double clicking them as well.
