Really cool platformer and great page design!
If I had to give criticism, I'd say there isn't much reason not to keep the light on all the time, at least in my experience. A lot of the blocks are either visible in both modes or visible only in the light - not many that are visible only in the dark (at least not enough to prevent me from quickly memorizing their locations before I get near them).
I still really enjoyed my time with it though!
A very original idea with a fantastic execution! The gameplay loop is simple to understand, yet very polished and addictive! I really enjoyed my time with this game.
I'd like to point out the menu controls that feel good to navigate with either a keyboard or a mouse - it's one of those details that really improve the overall experience.
Thanks everyone for your feedback and ratings - #21 in Enjoyment is a feat we could've never dreamed of! We're released a post-jam QoL update: https://zedgame.itch.io/one-man-army/devlog/1007240/update-11-post-jam-quality-o...
If you want to check out the original jam version, look for version 1.0 in the downloads section.
:P
Good call on the menus - while we tried highlighting the button you'd generally want to press to continue, I can see how the interface could be handled more clearly.
The speed is a tricky thing, since a faster game would be less predictable and therefore harder to design puzzles for, but I understand the sentiment.
Meaty and exciting gameplay! Cool name as well :))
What's interesting is while our ideas were similar at heart, you made past clones an advantage, while we made them a necessity. Your execution makes the game have an interesting balance system, where you can eventually push through, no matter the skill level, which is really cool.
Very creative and overall fun! My biggest gripes were the battery mechanic (wasn't sure what influenced it and it felt a bit like an arbitrary time limit) and the controls (WASD without mouse movement feels weird, I'd take either WASD+mouse or arrows+QE), but I can see this becoming a real fun game!
