Thanks for the attention, it means a lot to me :)
If it helps, this was written for a 1-hour-or-less Jam, so hence the short timeframe. My aim was to get people at my community gaming group comfortable with GMing, and I thought it might be less intimidating if it’s for just ten minutes.
Also, a philosophy I’m developing is to just make a statement without a ton of qualifiers. Of course people could spend longer or shorter than 10 minutes, or have a different number than exactly four players. But, it’s a pretty short game, so I don’t want to spend a bunch of time apologizing for what it is. I trust the readers to have their own opinions.
Re: what happens to Journiers, my expectation is that people’s characters are inactive when they become the Guide. Maybe they‘ve finished their journey, or they’re going their separate ways, or maybe they’re just hibernating because this Land is cold.
Again, thanks a lot for reading my game, it makes me very happy.
Like a lot of TTRPG words, it gets used in different ways. I think of it as a project (especially from the 90’s and 00’s) that someone would sink a ton of energy into. Usually they were/are fantasy games to “replace DnD”. They’re heartbreakers because online sales weren’t really a thing back then, so a person would pour their soul into making the next big thing and spend lots of money on publishing it.
In this context, I’m saying that this is a passion project. It’s kind of for an audience of one. So, I’m currently working on slightly more achievable smaller projects but I hope to come back to this big one eventually.
This is really awesome! I like so much here. One question: is “Obsessed” supposed to mean a character decided they’re angry? Or is it just Smitten, but implying it’s less healthy? I know you say love and hate are two sides of the same coin, but I’m not sure how I’d roleplay it. The Scoundrel for instance feels very different if they’re constantly deciding “I hate you” instead of deciding “I’m in love with you”.
I’m so in love with this setting. The introduction page, paralleling the story of the world and these two boys falling in love… it’s really beautiful. I tried to play with my friends, though, and we couldn’t quite figure out the flow of play. Do you have any plans for a second edition or more resources?
