In this post, I share my emotions about the game Cats are Liquid — A Better Place, praise it and its developers, tell a little about myself and how I translated it into my native language before the anniversary update, and also offer my ideas about adding content to the game. In general, probably, like all other posts. To avoid unnecessary questions, I am from Russia and translate the text through Yandex Translator, so I apologize for possible errors in the text.
It's just wonderful! The game is starting to update again, and for the better. Last Quarter Studios, thank you for such a beautiful and colorful game. Despite the grim plot, ABP itself, in my opinion, is quite a unique and unusual game. There are several reasons:
Device support
The game is available not only on desktop platforms, but also on mobile devices.
Editor
My favorite in my favorite games. This expands the game's community and its capabilities, because it provides unique levels and even more exciting gameplay.
Atmosphere
As I said, the game is quite colorful and has a unique design. It's even somewhat liminal. Personally, when I build levels, I use all the items in the editor. The first part shows that the limited horizons of the variety of subjects stretched the levels, allowing the game to become bigger. (It is very important that if you immediately survive all the possibilities to the maximum, there will simply be no point in doing anything further, and because of this, the game will become short.) Of course, it was probably because I wanted to mess with the code less 🤫, but it also played a positive role. In the second part, this is also a video, but not so much. I also can't help but mention the music. I am (quite a bit) a musical performer myself, and these works inspire me. They not only remind you of the pleasant gameplay process, but also make you think and enjoy them. Without musical accompaniment, the game would not be so atmospheric. Every piece of music seems to reflect the feelings or emotions of Lumi or the level itself, so you're more immersed in A Better Place. And in the first part it was bigger... more mysterious, perhaps, or liminal. ALiTS itself is a pretty weird game, in a good way. It probably affected the date of creation, because it was your first game.
Plot
Now there will be a little bit about me. I downloaded this game back "in childhood", and it seemed to me just the most ordinary good game. The English language did not allow me to understand the plot, and I thought of it myself. I thought... That purple was creating glitches, erasing friends' memories, and in the end… There was a mystery at the end. “It's probably purple too," I thought. Everything changed with the creation of the russifier by me. What was my surprise when I found out that cats created worlds themselves! Of course, I understand now, but the more I translated, the more I learned about the game.
That's probably why your game is so good.
Or maybe it's just because you did it with a lot of soul and love for the community.
I also have a couple of ideas for you, but you don't have to follow them, because that's just my personal opinion, but let them be revealed.
Russian language
My translation to your game, after so many updates, has become perfect (I hope), and a long time ago, more than 150 days ago, I wrote to you with a suggestion to add it to your game, but now it has been updated, and when instead of replacing the original files, you can simply insert your own, I suggest you once again. Of course, there are few people of Russian nationality on desktop devices, but there are a huge number of them on Google Play. If you add it, it will not only (probably) increase downloads on Google Play, but also expand the Steam Workshop community, as the game did not want to download worlds from Steam in Russian until the anniversary update. They loaded perfectly in the Workshop itself. Of course, I haven't tried it since 1.3, but if it didn't seem to me, I didn't notice such an item in the list of changes. I will keep my difficulties with translating the mobile version of ABP to myself.
Advanced Editor
In the first part of the Cats are liquid series of games (a rather comical name 😁), as in the second, there is a wide variety of elements (not hexagons). I and perhaps others would be pleased if you added items from the first part to the level editor of the second part. Well... then there are also advanced settings for existing ones. For example, rotation for saving (thanks for the opportunity to have more than one with the update!) as in the first part, or adding horizontal saving, etc. In my opinion, it would be cool, but I don't know how difficult it would be to implement. Yes, you may not like it, but that's your business, I just suggested it. It seems to me that the level editor in this game does not correspond to the plot (I mean, it does not exist according to the plot, it is unlikely that cats do levels in it 😁), so it can be anything.
Finally, I want to say to all readers: love, create, don't drink liquid cats, and everything will be f i n e.
