Just played and rated yours, it was fun!! I failed to save all the cows from the tanky saucers, hopefully ol Bessy will forgive me.
Here's my game :)
Nice job with your first game! I think horror games like this are better served in a first person POV for the immersion factor. Top down is better for strategy and vantage point for games with a lot of shooting involved. I like the emphasis on story and atmosphere though. If you keep working on this game, I would recommend some progression scaling, sound, and more environmental objects to drive home the worldbuilding, this could be a really promising game!
I like the hand drawn characters and the absurdist layering of political themes in a produce character universe. I struggled with understanding how my interactions corresponded with the gameplay for a while. Maybe as a future improvement it could be helpful to hold the players hand a little more so that it's clear on what order they should be doing things, and what's optional vs. extra. I seemed to always lose money from every broadcast :p
I really liked playing your game! Interesting concept to have a combustible shield to kill enemies. I think the sound effects, visual explosions, 3D environment and lighting add a lot of visual immersion to the game. If you end up returning back to this game to make more improvements, I would definitely recommend polishing up the UI. Could be cool to add some different powerups for your shield as well!
Really cute and fun game! I found the difficulty just challenging enough to want to keep trying but not too difficult that I felt like giving up. Really great for your first game. I prefer your pixel art over the professionally polished kind, I think it added more personality. I just wish the game made better use of the full frame rather than being up in the top left corner.
This game is visually awesome, the subtle interactivity of the start screens and UI, the music and sound effects are perfect too. I just found the mouse control difficult to use. I was constantly lifting my mouse in order maintain the cursor in front of the spinner to keep it tilted forward. I never beat anyone in the races because my mouse cord kept getting caught on the edge of my desk. Maybe it's my fault for not having a wireless mouse :D but otherwise I thought the game was really cool
Nice job finishing your first game! The time crunch was real, so I understand that you probably didn't get to playtest as much as you would have liked to. But if you're looking for feedback, I would say that pinball machine games are a bit like casino slots, the controls are simple, but people are engaged by the constant visual stimulation that happens on screen. Maybe adding more visual effects and emphasis when the pinball interacts with different point-scoring elements would help maintain player attention span. I would also add a one-way gate so that the pinball can't fall back into the launch zone ;) But I liked the moody atmosphere of the last level, would be cool to lean into that and make the whole thing ominous and creepy, def adds to the serious meter.
It reminds me of the games I used to play on miniclips a super long time ago- pretty fun! But it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out what was happening in the first level. I thought I WAS the square rock for a minute before realizing the dynamic between the yellow guy and the rock :) maybe some more instructions would be helpful for people like me haha
Really nice game. The sound effects, and interactivity work well together to create a peaceful experience. The dark levels were my favorite because of the strategy it involves to use your lights gears sparingly. I can see a lot of potential to integrate the gear abilities into the other levels for a sense of progressing difficulty and strategy.
