If itch.io had a demo category, I’ll happily put it there.

Also, you don’t know at all if the full game “might” be released to itch at some point: That’s something I would know, not you.

But you keep misrepresenting my intent and answering to that. I get that you have your opinion, but I’m no longer interested in it.

I don’t want to engage with you anymore. I don’t want to debate, it’s tiresome.

So you do consider demos to be fake files to cheat on indexing.

I tried to explain how I wouldn’t have a fragmentation of players for this game, but it seems in vain.

I wouldn’t give access to a demo on a blog post, so your point is dull.

Anyway, you took some time to answer, but feel free to abstain.

Seeing as other’s answers are helpful, even if not agreeing with me, is better.

I don’t want to debate.

The leaderboard API is only accessible for games that are officially on the catalog. People that want the leaderboard will not be able to “just go to the official site”. They’ll have to buy the online version.

So that would means 2 versions for the same game, where if a player bought the offline version, they wouldn’t be able to send their score.

Sideloading won’t mean having an offline version. For the merit of a game that use a leaderboard, it’s based upon the score and being competitive: You get to see your ranking.

As any player may, you can ignore that, and that’ll be your opinion, but it’s not the subject of this thread.

Thank you, I’ve got a better grasp on how I can proceed. I understand your feeling about these demo: This game I want to make is geared toward async competition, so it’s not really a solo game.

Again, thank you for time you take to answer me, you helped me and I appreciate it

Sideloading is not the main way to have games on playdate. It is popular because it’s simple and do not rely on playdate approval, but to have access to some API, a game must be submitted to the playdate catalog, so there’s pros and cons for each method.

I didn’t see an option for “other” link in a project page, also I already know itch.io have playdate games, most of them are offline.

I did some research before hand, that why I though asking for help would’ve been a good idea.

Thank you for the time you took to reply.

I understand that having a page for a game not prodiving files for said game on it would not be ideal. I’m trying to know how my game would fit with what’s stated in the documentation. My game main point is to have a leaderboard, which can be granted to dev if they submit their game to the playdate catalog. I’m not sure there would any point for my game to be offline.

So providing it on itch.io as a sideloadable game seems moot. Would a downloadable demo be still considered as only promoting the full online game?

Again, if I’m asking these questions, it’s because I did read the doc, look the playdate games and didn’t see a game that would match my case.

Thank you for you answer and the example you gave

Yeah, I’ve already read this, that why I also wrote this question here

So I guess Playdate game would only be sideloadable games?

Hello!

I tried looking for an answer to this questions in the docs and here, but I didn’t find anything.

Some context: I’m currently making a game for the Playdate handheld, and it’s designed with online leaderboard/scoreboard features in mind, so it would be only accessible on the Playdate Game Catalog (if accepted).

I know a page can have steam store link and such, but I didn’t find anything related to Playdate. Some projects have a small widget linking the game to an equivalent page on the Playdate website, but that for game that would also be sideloadable. My won’t be.

So is it frown upon to have a game page where the only way to make a purchase it to buy it on the Playdate Game page?

I’m not sure about it, so I’m asking for your answers

Thanks in advance

It should be fixed: There would now be a fullscreen button at the bottom right of the frame

What browser are you using? On firefox, it open a new windows that allow fullscreen.

I love your pixel art and I made a game with it! I will try to release it soon. And of course, you are in the (end) credits :)

Love your work! I will release a game that feature these assets (you are in the credits) I’m currently finishing it though
