We are an international network of vaccine scientists based at the University of Oxford and have created BCG Adventures, three educational computer games to help researchers, parents and teachers engage young people with the science of vaccines. This week we launched the final game in the series.
During their adventures, students will learn about:
How two legendary scientists discovered a lifesaving vaccine.
The challenges of deliveringvaccines to the communities that need them.
How the human body defendsitself against bacterial invaders.
Made with the help of world-leading vaccine researchers from The VALIDATE Network, BCG Adventures is a free open access resource that can you play on a PC or Mac.
The three free games are:
- Albert and Camille’s Little Lille Adventure: A classic exploration game in which you help Albert Calmette and Camille Guérin explore occupied Lille in 1917. Find the items they need to learn about the techniques used to create the BCG vaccine.
- Vaccine Delivery Adventure: A fun side-scrolling game where you control a healthcare worker trying to overcome the challenges of delivering the BCG vaccine in increasingly difficult environments. Avoid dangerous dogs, raging rivers and heavy traffic before the vaccine overheats!
- Welcome to your Immune System: An addictive arcade-style game where you defend human cells from invading bacteria. Use all the weapons in your arsenal from macrophages, killer T cells, to cytokines and learn how these work in real life.
To ensure as many people as possible can play the games, they have been translated into Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Portuguese and French.
