Her storyline is being rewritten. These cutscenes are from the previous storyline.

Based on "Backported one fix" phrase, the devs definitely has a next version, because "backport" literally means "copy from one version to the previous one". And it doesn't make sense to have a new version with just bug fixes.

I had an exception as well (maybe the same). It was related to the Russian language pack. Once I deleted /Android/data/com.dbpanda.betweenhumanity/files/game/tl/<language> directory, game started to work again.

Try to remove French localization in that directory.
