Trees do not regrow so they are a limited resource, although I'd like to add tree planting in future.
I'm planning on adding more of a tutorial in the next update. In the meantime I'll probably record a "let's play" video that will show you the basics.
To farm you need to find seeds, so look for chests in buildings. Once you have seeds plant them in the soil patch south of the river. You need to water the seeds too before they will grow. After the first day someone who will visit who you can trade with for different seeds.
Overall the only goal right now is to farm, meet some of the locals, and survive the zombies.
