Great conversation. When I was younger I used to be heavily influenced by this "choose a job you love" mindset. Now I know it's not that simple. I think it can be even dangerous to follow that advice, since it may lead some people to tolerate high levels of exploitation while they try to find the "job they love".

Masterpiece

I recently uploaded this poster and I think it could fit here. I know the jam is over and it's not a game anyway, so I decided to submit a community topic. Hope you enjoy it. Cheers!

I think it all boils down to redistributing wealth and work equally among all of us (not strict equality but more like "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need"). Many things can be done to achieve that goal:

  • Build and maintain strong public services/industries in life supporting sectors, so that the essential products and services are guaranteed for every single person (healthcare, education, food, housing, energy, transport and telecomm). This one is fundamental because it would remove profit-driven companies from the key sectors, thus making it easier for all the people to get the basic stuff no matter how low your income is.
  • Reduce working hours, both for individuals and collectively as a society. This would contribute to solve a wide range of problems, from unemployment to climate crisis. Would also help to reduce worker stress and several health problems derived from working long hours.
  • Replace CEOs and other managers and directors with some sort of worker-controlled entity. Promote direct democracy in the workplace by granting public access to the company's accounting and making important decisions in workers' assemblies.
  • Don't tax the rich, just f*cking expropriate their wealth and use it for some common good. We should abandon the private-property-is-above-all mindset and prioritize collective well-being.
  • Use tech and automation to reduce global working time instead of continue to increase productivity.
  • Stop fast fashion trends and planned obsolescence. Encourage repair, recycle and reuse culture. Enforce modular design.
  • Abolish intellectual property laws that are dragging tech and science progress, and adopt a more permissive open-source collaborative culture.
  • Reduce the size of the military-industrial complex worldwide.
  • Defund and demilitarize the police.
  • Organize more group activities and events out of the reach of the market forces, just like this jam 🥰

Tons of things can be done, these are only the few that I came up with.

Hi,

Missed the jam this year, but I thought someone around here will appreciate my artwork :)
