Hi all. If you're a fan of murders mysteries, detective games, or puzzles, this one is for you!

I gave a crack at creating a browser-based, murder mystery puzzle game. It's similar to the Hunt a Killer board games or The Roottrees are Dead, in the sense that you don't control a detective character and walk around the crime scene. Instead, the evidence is simply shown to you. Read, analyze, and draw conclusions to figure out what happened!

Play the game here: https://triplesmeven.itch.io/murder-at-the-occult-club. No download required, play directly in the browser!

If there's any issues on the itch version, you can also play the game directly where it's hosted: https://murder-at-the-occult-club.vercel.app/game

Please leave your feedback and thoughts. I'm especially curious about which puzzles are difficult so I can make the hints better. Appreciate you trying out my game!

Pretty fun and chaotic game! I assume there will be more levels and some sort of progression system.

The game was tad laggy. There were times the game just froze without an obvious loading screen. So maybe adding some loading screens would help make it feel smoother.

Hey, some quick feedback:

  • The music is a bit too loud compared to the sounds. Can maybe tone it down a bit.
  • I think the camera could be zoomed out more. Half the time I am being shot at from enemies I can't even see.
  • Since a lot of the weapons are rapidfire, hold-down to shoot would be good (instead of making me spam click to shoot).
  • On my resolution (1600x1050), in the shop menu, the HP bar and the "Highscore" part overlapped.
  • Pressing "More" in the shop menu didnt more me more things, it just hid my stats. Not sure what the intention of that is.

Hey, I'm not a Spanish speaker but here's some quick feedback that I'm typing as I play it:

  • The opening text that shows up when you start the game ends too quickly. Even though I'm not a Spanish reader, assuming I was, there was barely enough time to read the final words before it cut off and moved on to the next part.
  • Some hover effects over the menu buttons would be good I think. For example, if I hover over "Play" or "Controls" or "Quit", the word would highlight, showing me that I can click on it.
  • BUG: If I click on the controls, then press the "Back" button multiple times very fast, the game crashes.
  • The opening sequence is not skippable. Maybe escape for spacebar can skip it.
  • I feel that at the start of the game, you might be throwing too many hazards at the player too fast. I think you should give them time to get used to the controls and the "rules" of the game. Right at the start you introduce 2 enemies, the spikes, and the sawblades all in one screen. They aren't hard to understand after dying to them a bunch, but I think you should avoid overwhelming the player so early.
  • I think the background stands out a teeny bit too much, sometimes making it hard to see things like enemies and spikes. Maybe the background can be blurred, less saturated, or maybe not have black outlines to make "hide" it better.
  • Some checkpoints would be nice. Dying and restarting all the way at the start is a bit frustrating.

Anyways, great work! I hope my feedback was helpful.

Also, I assume you want to know if your game is "fun", as in "enjoyable". Not "funny", as in "humourous" 😅

I think with the text on his forehead, and that the Player knows it is a "roll a dice" bot, I think its understandable enough.

The game seems broken for keyboard.

So I launched the game for the first time, and started the quest. I got stuck on the first door where you need to select your "difficulty shield".

I couldn't enter the black portal because I didnt know how to jump to reach it, so I just manually closed the game. When I restarted it, I couldnt start the quest again because my keyboard buttons weren't working. I couldn't use the arrow keys to select the buttons on the menu, and pressing enter/spacebar/whatever key its supposed to be to confirm didn't work.

Wow this is great. I'm a game developer hobbyist and this has been an amazing asset to my work. Once I release the game I'll drop you a tip for helping me out. Thanks for releasing this asset for free though!
