Update: Despite the code being pretty much 90-99% finished, I think I'm still going to drop out from the jam. The main horror element of my game was going to be the graphics and the atmosphere, and I don't feel like posting it to a "horror jam" if the visuals are going to be rushed and botched. I probably would have been able to make it in time if I managed my time better, had more experience with Godot and if my job didn't steal an unusual amount of my time. Oh well, c'est la vie I guess, gonna use this freed up time to focus a bit more on my college project.
(Also, for the curious (again), here's some of the humor element I was planing to add to the experience: one of the jester's ability was to throw a banana peel on one empty enemy space to instantly stun the next wave's enemy on that space during turn 1; the plague doctor (Darkest Dungeon) equivalent was named "The Rat" and had an ability to cure poison named "He needs mouse bites"; no mater the final art style chosen, the final boss was going to be a png of a goldfish with Sonic.exe MS-Paint eyes. I also had the idea of making each character give a special buff for the rest of combat to all their allies after dying (since the lack of reliable healing abilities would make death inevitable) and pair this with the "Vampire" character that had the ability to kill an ally and transfer its remaining health to it, so you could sacrifice a low health character to heal the vampire and give everyone their special buff on turn 1 (dunno if it would have been META, but I thought it was original).

Currently doing some kind of Darkest Dungeon inspired turn based combat simulator and the coding is going rather well. It's a solo project and I'm mid at best at art and sound design, so that's most likely going to be affected heavily... I'm also doing this in the middle of a college semester, so I can't even promise that I'll actually publish anything. I might get inspired by a free Steam game called "Fourmiworld" to make the visuals out of a collage of random free pictures to (hopefully) save some time and make the enemies look more weird, eldritch and generally uncanny, but I'm still not done with the gameplay, so we'll see what I do with this idea later. (Also, for the curious, here's how I'm trying to follow the themes: Erosion - You need to clear ~20 combats with 6 playable characters that have NO healing ability / Underwater Exploration - The dungeon leads underwater and you fight deformed fish monsters)

Yes it's a school project. I dunno why no one answered you lol

tbh, the game isn't straight up bad, it's just frustratingly rushed. I had 10 days to do it and I only took 2, the drawings for the antagonist is way below my standards (see my pfp as reference of what I can draw), I can still see a bunch of things I know I should had fixed (being unable to start a game with a keyboard input, the projectile pattern being full random and creating unwinnable situations, the player hitbox being ambiguous (should had been more like Touhou and Bullet Heaven 2), etc.) and the game itself is a game that was already made 1000 time before. I don't say it's not fun, I myself have spent a bunch of hours playing it just for fun, it's just that it doesn't represent the level of ambition I want to put into my work. Making it was really good practice, but I would had preferred to publish something that wasn't just a practice game to get used to the Godot interface. I know I'm better than this, so I will continue to practice and I will publish a full backed game for the next Jam!!!

I tried to delete this comment because it's no longer useful, but it doesn't seem to want to die. So... yeah sorry for that...

I'm addicted to this game, good stuff!
The simple concept and graphics mixed with the original, fast and intense gameplay is winning me over
